Michelle Lawhon-Vereecken, a remarkable woman whose life was full of love, laughter, and resilience. She peacefully passed away on August 11, 2026, at the age of 59, surrounded by those she loved. Born on August 1, 1967, in Rockford, Illinois, Michelle's life was a testament to the beauty of living fully and generously, even as she bravely battled cancer for four years. Michelle was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Robert and Sandra Vereecken, her cherished Aunt Norma Jean, and a close family friend, Isabell Jackson. Her legacy, however, is lovingly carried forward by her four adoring daughters; Shanna Jackson, Chelsea Vereecken, Breanna Pegues, and Karly Vereecken. Michelle's spirit and laughter will continue to echo in the lives of her three grandchildren, Jayden Jackson, Anthony Vereecken, and Judah Alexander. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Darrin Lawhon, as well as her sister, Tanya Thompson, and brother, Darryl Vereecken, uncles Charles and Kenneth Culbreath. She leaves behind her dear nephews, Robert Vereecken, Evan Spedding, and Jacob Vereecken, and her treasured cousin and best friend, Kelly Hall. She leaves behind her soul sister, Kim Lundberg and lifelong friend Mickey Jackson. A woman of boundless warmth and joy, Michelle's life was rich with simple pleasures and profound connections. She delighted in the outdoors, spending many cherished moments camping and visiting the Wisconsin Dells with her family. Her love for gardening was evident in the vibrant flowers she tended, a reflection of the beauty she cultivated in her life. Her heart was as large as her love for animals, and her laughter was infectious, brightening the lives of everyone around her. Michelle's presence was a constant source of joy at family gatherings, whether she was dancing to live music with friends or embarking on adventures to Tennessee to visit loved ones. Her brother fondly remembers her as his "bull," a testament to her strength and spirit, and looks forward to their dance in the afterlife. She was his spring chicken, always ready to go. She also leaves behind many family and friends whose hearts she dearly touched. A private funeral ceremony will be held to honor Michelle's life. The family extends profound gratitude to the medical staff at Javon Bea Hospital, with special thanks to Lauren from the ICU on the 5th floor and Kitty from the 6th floor, whose care and compassion were a comfort during Michelle's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Gift of Hope in Forsyth, Missouri, an organization that held special significance to Michelle. Michelle Lawhon-Vereecken's legacy is one of love, laughter, and resilience. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
