Michelle Jeniece Ala'Chappelle

Born on July 31, 1972, in Sacramento, California, Michelle was a beacon of joy and inspiration to all who knew her. She was welcomed into the world by her devoted parents, Valinda Antionette Ala'Chappelle and Mitchell Smith, who predeceased her. Michelle passed away on July 10, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom. Michelle's life was filled with passion and dedication. She graduated from Sacramento High School in 1991 and went on to serve the state as an Analyst and Advisor for over a decade, where her intelligence and dedication inspired her colleagues. Her work was much more than a career; it was a testament to her commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. A devoted mother and grandmother, Michelle's family was the center of her world. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Joseph Azef Ala'Chappelle and Kylea Sakeenah Ala'Chappelle O'Con, and her cherished grandchildren, Julietta Abbygail Rivera Baeza, Adrian Gionni Contreras Baeza, Azalea Camellia Ala'Chappelle, and Amaryllis Rey Guadalupe Ala'Chappelle. Her love also extended to her brother, Mitchell Linelle Clayborn Smith Jr., and her nieces and nephew, Leah Marie Smith, Mitchell Linelle Clayborn Smith II, and Mary Makaylin Smith. Michelle's zest for life was evident in her many passions. A talented performer, she was active in the theater and performing arts community, leaving her mark in films such as "Mistaken" (2004) and "Hood Damnation" (2014). She was also an avid ballet dancer in her youth and a member of the Calvary Christian Center and Visual Performing Arts Center since 1989. Her love for the arts and adventure was mirrored in her enthusiasm for swimming, hiking, and exploring the world with her children. Known for her bright, vibrant personality, Michelle had an unparalleled ability to uplift and inspire those around her. Her charisma and warmth were matched only by her wisdom and encouragement, making her a beloved figure in her community. A celebration of Michelle's life will be held on August 9, 2026, at William Land Park, located at 3901 Land Park Dr, Sacramento, CA 95822. Her family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time and wishes to honor her memory with the words: "Loved beyond words and missed beyond measure."
