March 24, 1967 – April 18, 2026
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Boykin on April 18, 2026, due to health complications. Born on March 24, 1967, in the serene town of Bluefield, Virginia, Mike lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering commitment to family and friends.
Mike was the beloved son of the late Robert and Brenda Boykin. He was predeceased by cherished family members, including his grandson Zevulun Bradford, sister Linda Williams, aunts Debra Buckhannon and Betty Kirksey, uncle Archie Dudley, special cousins Joy Blair and Robert Anderson, sister-in-law Christine Williams, and best friend Alan. Despite these losses, Mike's spirit remained unbroken, and he continued to be a beacon of strength and love for those around him.
Surviving him are his children, Sarah Willis, Gina Boykin, Michale Boykin, Darren, and Michael Boykin, Jr., who carry forward his legacy of resilience and compassion. His grandchildren—Kamaria Wilson, Na’Shawn Ellison, Khalil Wilson, Nazir Ellison, Beautiful Courts, Aziyah Williams, Robert Gray, Prince Gray Kahamuu-n Sanders, Heavynn Bradford, and Javeah Bradford—and great-grandchildren, Genesis Ellison and Anaziriya Ellison, will forever miss their doting granddad whose pride in them was boundless.
His life partner, Billie Contreras, stood by his side, sharing in his joys and sorrows, forming a partnership rooted in deep love and mutual respect. His siblings, Malcolm Boykin, Lazette (Bill) Boykin, Melissa (Demetrius) Wilson, Bobby Hairston, Johnny (Shawn) Williams, India Brooks, and Kwaysee Williams, along with a host of other relatives and friends, mourn his passing but celebrate his remarkable life.
Mike had a passion for music, particularly old-school jams that could lift spirits and bring smiles to faces. His love for music was matched only by his love for fishing, a pastime he eagerly anticipated each year. Mike was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends, whether at a barbecue or simply sharing stories. To him, these moments were treasures beyond measure.
A devoted family man, Mike was a protector and a provider, a man whose presence was a source of comfort and strength. His courage, resilience, and indefatigable spirit earned him the admiration of all who knew him. Even in the face of adversity, Mike's smile never faltered, a testament to his unyielding spirit.
Michael Boykin leaves behind a legacy rich in love and strength. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will carry forward his values and keep his spirit alive.
A service to honor Mike's life will be held on May 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Family, friends, and all whose lives Mike touched are invited to join in celebrating a life lived with great joy and immense love.
In this time of loss, may we find solace in the beautiful memories Mike created with us, and may his soul rest in eternal peace.
