Michael Wood Cummings

November 3, 1969 — July 7, 2026

Michael Wood Cummings, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, at his home in Memphis, Tennessee. Born on November 3, 1969, in Memphis, Michael was the beloved son of the late Wilma Letters and Larry Cummings. He was 56 years old. Michael was a man who truly lived for his family and his faith. He grew up in the heart of Memphis, where he attended Hillcrest High School. It was there that he met the love of his life, Linda, his high-school sweetheart, whom he married shortly after graduation. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Michael's life was a testament to hard work and dedication. He was known as a wonderful husband and a dedicated provider for his family. His strong belief in Christ was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through every challenge and triumph with grace and humility. Even in the face of adversity, Michael remained steadfast in his faith and commitment to those he loved. In late 2024, Michael was diagnosed with testicular cancer. With the heart of a warrior, he fought bravely against the disease for three years, embodying strength and resilience until he was called to his eternal rest. Michael is preceded in death by his parents Wilma and Larry Cummings, his sister Beatrice, and his brother Lenny. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, cherished by his surviving family members: his devoted wife Linda, his son Mikhail Cummings, daughter Ivory Cummings Pratt, and his three beloved grandchildren, Juscia, Justin, and Raven Cummings. Michael's love and wisdom will also continue to inspire his five great-grandchildren: Terrell, Terrance, Trevor, Melinda, Gertrude, and Serenity. A service to celebrate Michael's life will be held on July 9, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Christ Church Memphis, located at 4488 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38117. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor the life of a man who touched so many with his kindness, strength, and unwavering faith. In memory of Michael, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a cancer research organization of your choice, continuing the fight that Michael so valiantly waged. Michael Wood Cummings will be remembered not only for the love and dedication he gave to his family but also for the warmth and compassion he extended to all those fortunate enough to have known him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched, and his life will be celebrated as a testament to love, faith, and perseverance.
