It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael W. Smith Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world unexpectedly on May 6, 2026, at the age of 52. Michael was born on July 2, 1973, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a place that he called home throughout his life.
Michael was the beloved son of the late Charlotte Rozier, who predeceased him, and Willie Rozier, along with his stepfather Calvin Jackson. His legacy continues through his surviving siblings: Willie, Stephanie, Wesley, Thomi, Shawn, Rick, and Tamesha. He leaves behind his children, who were the pride and joy of his life: MikQala, Michelle, Michael, and stepson Noah. Michael was also a devoted grandfather to six grandchildren: Jeremy Jr., Damonni, Me'Lani, Mih'Onna, Mih'Jhae, and Maya, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Michael found companionship and love with his girlfriend, Nancy Wolfe, and he maintained a lifelong friendship with the mother of his children, Carla "Cana" Chapple, who will forever hold a special place in his heart.
Michael’s life was a testament to his love for family, his passion for anything automotive, and his unwavering determination to help those around him. Known for his no-nonsense demeanor and take-charge attitude, Michael obtained his CDL license and a degree from Triangle Tech, achievements that spoke to his intelligence and dedication. His knowledge and experience in various fields were admired by many, and he was always eager to share his wisdom with those he loved.
An extraordinary mechanic, Michael had the rare talent to dismantle and reassemble any engine placed before him. He found immense joy in driving long distances, often accompanied by music and engaging conversations about life’s many mysteries. His encouragement and support led many family members to obtain their driver's licenses, further extending his legacy of empowerment and care.
Michael’s unexpected departure leaves a void that will be felt deeply by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and in the countless engines he breathed new life into.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember a man whose life was defined by love, laughter, and an unyielding spirit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Michael’s name to a charity of your choice, reflecting his generous spirit and desire to help others.
Michael, your journey has ended far too soon, but the love and memories you leave behind will forever light our way. Rest in peace, dear Michael.
