Michael W. Powers, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on September 5, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 1, 1957, in Florence, Kentucky, Michael lived a life filled with love, adventure, and an unwavering devotion to his family and passions.
Michael was the cherished son of the late Thomas and Marilyn Powers, and brother to the late Terry and Tommy Powers. He was a pillar of strength and love for his surviving family members, including his three sons, Jerry Fife and his wife Nicki, Matthew Powers, and Eric Powers and his wife Kyonna. Michael was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Emilee, Allison, Kaitlyn, Natalie, Gretchen, and Waylon. His enduring love and encouragement were constants in their lives, and his legacy will continue to inspire them.
A graduate of Boone County High School's class of 1975, Michael went on to attend Eastern Kentucky University. He embarked on a fulfilling career as a cable technician, starting at Johnson Control before transitioning to Time Warner, where he became known as the best in his field. Michael retired in 2020, having made countless connections and memories along the way.
Michael's passions extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid fisherman, whose knowledge of the best fishing spots and techniques was unmatched. Whether on a boat or the shore, he found peace and joy on the water. He also cherished nature, spending time walking trails and exercising, often capturing the beauty of flowers to share with his loved ones. Michael had an extraordinary ability to make those around him feel seen and heard, a testament to his genuine and caring nature.
Michael's family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Kyonna Barton for her unwavering strength, support, and love, ensuring that Michael was cared for according to his wishes until his last breath. The family considers Kyonna an angel for her kindness and dedication.
A service to celebrate Michael's life will be held on September 9, 2026, at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice, reflecting Michael's spirit of generosity and compassion.
Michael's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
