May 19, 1941 — July 13, 2026
Michael V. Foust, a dedicated family man, accomplished attorney, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on May 19, 1941, to Jack and Dorcille Foust, Michael was a beacon of integrity, warmth, and wisdom throughout his life.
Michael's journey began in Sherman County, where he graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1961. His passion for learning and justice led him to Kansas University, where he graduated in 1966, and later to Washburn Law School, Class of 1972. During his time at law school, Michael worked diligently in the Attorney General's office, balancing his burgeoning legal career with the responsibilities of a young family. His commitment to law continued as he practiced in Goodland for 52 years, providing invaluable counsel and support to his community.
In 1964, Michael married Jeannette Ihrig, and together they embarked on a beautiful journey of love and partnership that lasted 62 years. Their marriage was a testament to devotion and resilience, flourishing with their two beloved children, John and Michelle. Michael's legacy extends to his grandchildren, Jordyn, Jessica, Joselyn, Gabe, Brittany, and Cecilia, who brought him immense joy, and his great-grandchildren, Harper, Remington, Oliver, Adalynn, and Arlee, who were the light of his later years.
Michael's life was rich with passions and pursuits. An avid reader with a particular interest in World War II history, he delighted in conversations with veterans, often discussing their experiences with genuine curiosity and respect. His fascination with airplanes was well-known, and he was a self-taught guitarist who found joy in music. Whether on the golf course or at the water's edge with a fishing line, Michael cherished time spent with his family, sharing laughter and creating memories.
Beyond his personal interests, Michael was deeply involved in his community. He served as Senior Warden twice at his Episcopal Church, and contributed 16 years of service to the Library Board. He was also a valued member of the Rotary Club and Elks Club. Known for his drive, dedication, and razor-sharp wit, Michael had a masterful way with words, often writing about his life experiences and observations, leaving a legacy of thought-provoking and heartfelt writings.
Michael's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and joy. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Jeannette; his children John (Kathy) Foust and Michelle Wilkens; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, Lanee, Lee, Lyndee, Tranda, Kelis, Darrick, Gina, and Andi.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Dorcille Foust. Michael's memory will forever be held dear by those who knew him, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
