With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Weitzel, who departed from this world on June 12, 2026, at the age of 58. Born on October 27, 1967, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, Mike graced the lives of those around him with his warm presence, infectious laughter, and enduring creativity. Michael was the beloved son of Joanie and Gerald Weitzel of Hollandale, Minnesota. From an early age, Mike exhibited a unique talent for woodworking and building, a skill he honed into an art form. Whether crafting a piece of furniture or repairing a cherished item, Mike found immense satisfaction in working with his hands, always driven by the joy of creation and the pride of a job well done. Mike's love for the great outdoors was a defining aspect of his life. He found peace in the natural world, whether he was hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the serenity of nature. These passions not only brought him joy but also served as a bridge that connected him deeply with his family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever. He is survived by his loving parents, Joanie and Gerald Weitzel, his brother, Shawn Weitzel, and sister-in-law Nicole, along with their daughter, Rielly, and his sister, Trisha Weitzel of Virginia. His son Jake Weitzel of Albert Lea, his wife Brenda Weitzel of Minnesota, grandparents Patricia and Robert Fjelbroten of Albert Lea, aunts and uncles Rob, Khris, Kim, Ernie, Carol, Tammy, John, Joyce as well as a large extended family including cousins, and countless friends who loved him dearly. Mike was predeceased by his grandparents, Anna and Jake Weitzel, aunts and uncles; Mike Belshan, Ruth, Cate, Betty, Bev, Connie, Rosie, Eddie, Bob, and Jimmy, amd many cousins and dear friends who have undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms into the next chapter of his journey. A celebration of Mike's life will take place on July 11, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the American Legion, located at 142 N Broadway Ave, Albert Lea, MN 56007. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the memory of a man who touched so many lives with his kindness, creativity, and unwavering love for those around him. Interment will be held at a later date. Gone hunting in heaven: Remember the smiles and not the tears for all the Hunts throughout the years. Don't dwell on things left unsaid cherish your memories we had instead, like the crisp mornings and dusk nights, a trophy Buck within our sights. Hunting with Shawn or stories with Rob and many friends and family along the way these moments meant so much to me. When peace from nature all around was scattered by a sudden sound. I always hope your aim was true and smiled in pride for all of you. So don't cry for me because life is done stalking the fields has just begun come fall may Smiles adorn your face knowing I've gone hunting in a better place.
