Michael Todd Thomas

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Michael Todd Thomas, who was called home on September 1, 2026. Michael was born on February 17, 1971, in the close-knit community of Plymouth, North Carolina, where he would go on to leave an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. Michael was the cherished son of the late Carolyn Thomas and Joseph Alexander, and he carried forward the rich legacy of his family, which included his predeceased grandparents, Nathaniel Thomas and Etta Barnes. His spirit and warmth remain in the hearts of his surviving family members, who will continue to honor him through the memories they shared. He is survived by his devoted sister, Dr. Marvina Butler, and her husband, retired Army MSG Fitzgerald Butler, who reside in Nevada. Michael was a beloved uncle to Alaetra and David, who admired their uncle's kindness and wisdom. His brothers, Sidney Franklin of North Carolina, along with Terrell, Antonio, and Brittany; Marvin Franklin of Georgia, alongside Shandora; Joey Belcher and Kenneth Sawyer, both of North Carolina, also hold fond memories of him, cherishing the moments they spent together. A proud graduate of Plymouth High School in the class of 1991, Michael pursued a life of service and dedication to education. For 28 remarkable years, he committed himself to nurturing young minds as a Teacher Assistant at Washington County High School. His colleagues and students alike remember him for his unwavering dedication, patience, and compassion. Michael's influence extended beyond the classroom as he inspired many to strive for excellence and to approach life with kindness and understanding. Michael's life will be celebrated on September 12, 2026, at 3:00 PM, where friends and family will gather to pay their respects and honor his remarkable journey. As we reflect on Michael's life and the joy he brought to others, we invite those who wish to make a donation in his memory to do so to a charity of their choice, thus continuing his legacy of giving and compassion.
