January 27, 0074 — April 22, 2026

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Michael "Mikey" Meggs Jr., who left this world peacefully on April 22, 2026, at the age of 52, at his home in Marrero, Louisiana. Born on January 27, 1974, Michael was a beacon of joy and warmth, whose presence lit up every room he entered. Born into the loving union of Ruthie Mae and Michael Meggs Sr., Mikey was a cherished son, a devoted father, a beloved brother, a playful uncle, and a loyal friend. His life was a testament to kindness, laughter, and the unwavering bonds of family. Mikey's infectious smile and signature laugh were famously contagious, leaving a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to meet him. His passion for football was unrivaled, and he was known for never missing a game on Sundays. While he admired the talents of many, Aaron Rogers held a special place in his heart, and Mikey's enthusiasm for the sport was a joy to behold. An avid poker player, he treated the game with the seriousness and dedication of a professional, honing his skills with strategy and camaraderie. Mikey was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Martha Johnson and John Carpenter Sr., grandparents Mary and Willie Sims Sr., Ferninand and Marion Sims, uncles John Carpenter Jr. and Willie Sims Jr., great aunt Joan Carpenter, and cousin Patrice Sims. Their memories were cherished by Mikey, and he carried their love and wisdom with him throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his parents, Ruthie and Michael Meggs Sr. (Barbara), and his beloved children—Miaesha, Mia, Michael Pierce, and Mikail Gayles (Darryl). His four sisters, Shannon Meggs, Michelle Sims, Kenyetta Smith, and Bridgette Gomez, along with his three brothers, David, Michael Meggs III, and Keith Gomez, will forever hold his memory close. Great uncles Seth Carpenter and Larry Brown, great aunt Carmen Rhodes, and his aunts Patricia, Robin, Deborah Sims, Sadie Brown, Elemalda Jolivette, and Ann Brisco were integral parts of Mikey's life, sharing in the laughter and love that defined his journey. His spirit lives on through his nephews Davon, Jayden, David Jr., and Myles, and his nieces Alexis, Davia, D'Asia, Aniyah, and Jazmyne. Mikey's heart was especially full when spending time with his three grandchildren, Victoria, Seven, and Wynter, who will carry forward his legacy of joy and warmth. Mikey's life will be celebrated on April 5, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Roch Baptist Church, located at 2300 Rochelle Street, Harvey, Louisiana 70058. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Mikey are invited to join in honoring his memory and celebrating the extraordinary life he lived. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to The Who Dat Crew, Aqunette Laviere Davis, Mautrary, and everyone who offered support through cards, phone calls, social media messages, and kind words during this difficult time. Your warmth and compassion have been a great comfort. In our hearts, Mikey will forever remain, a shining example of love, laughter, and the enduring strength of family. His legacy will forever be cherished, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
