It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Michael "MikeGunn" Mays Cooper, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend. Michael departed this world peacefully on June 14, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on June 30, 1958, to Vicky Mays Cooper, he was a beacon of strength and resilience, battling lung cancer with courage and dignity until the very end.
Michael was a man of many talents and passions. A skilled construction worker and automotive mechanic, he was known for his keen ability to transform ideas into reality. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish a legacy company dedicated to working with youth, fostering skills and confidence in the next generation. Michael's commitment to his community was unwavering, and his influence will be felt for years to come.
Outside of his professional achievements, Michael was a man of diverse interests. He had a deep love for cars, an impeccable sense of fashion, and a profound appreciation for music, particularly old-school R&B. His voice, rich and soulful, echoed through family gatherings, leaving indelible memories of warmth and joy. A game of pool was another of his favorite pastimes, where his competitive spirit shone brightly.
Michael was a pillar of loyalty, devotion to family, and faith. His bold personality, respect for others, and organized nature were admired by all who knew him. His legacy is carried on by his children, Deondre Clark-Cooper, Donnell Sn (Sarah) Smith, Linda Wilkins, Dominique (Kendrid) Wheeler, Florence Glenn, Dartanion Smith, Mariah Sned, Robert Sned, and Missy. He also leaves behind a loving circle of grandchildren, Diondre II, Avonte, Deondre III, William, Cortez, Andrew, Andre, Donnell Jr, Jasmine, Jadeyn, Nevaeh, Jayleen, Olivia, Mikaylah, Areanna, Arianna, Amonei, Daneyah Gray, Destined Gray, Gabrielle, Aylli, and Ay'jah, along with his cherished cousins Catherine, Pete, Sharon, Donna, Melanie, Eric, and Norman.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Vicky, his sister Vanessa, his brother Warren, and his cousin Tony. He is also survived by a host of extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A celebration of Michael's life will take place on July 18, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Sheridan Park, located at 4800 S. Lake Drive, Cudahy, WI 53110. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and to honor the legacy he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Michael's memory to a charity of your choice, dedicated to youth development or cancer research, reflecting his passion for nurturing the future and his fight against the disease that claimed him.
