It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Michael Louis Hoelscher, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left us on September 26, 2026. Born on May 6, 1949, in North Bend, Oregon, Mike touched the lives of many with his warmth, humor, and unyielding love for others.
Mike was the son of Louis and Lillian Hoelscher, who predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, with whom he shared a remarkable partnership for 42 years. Together, they built a life full of love and adventure. He also leaves behind his stepson, Eric Williams; daughter-in-law, Tam Morino, and her spouse, Scott Martin; his beloved grandchildren, Isabella and Gavin Williams; his sister, Susan Dixon and brother-in-law Ray; and his lifelong friend, Rich Mayo. Each of them carries forward the legacy of love and kindness that Mike so generously shared.
Mike’s academic journey took him from Wilson High School in Tacoma to Tacoma Community College, and ultimately to the University of Puget Sound where he earned his master's degree in Business Administration. His commitment to education was a testament to his belief in the power of knowledge and growth.
A proud veteran, Mike served honorably in the Navy, stationed in Vietnam and Alaska, before his discharge in September 1975. His service to his country was a source of great pride and an integral part of his life's story.
Professionally, Mike's career began humbly at Carl's Drive-In in Tacoma, where he worked diligently from the age of 17. His journey led him to the Heidelberg Brewery and later to Scott Wetzel Services as Assistant Vice President of Data. He found his calling at Pierce College's IT Department, where he dedicated over 30 years, offering his expertise and wisdom until his retirement.
Mike's love for life was evident in his many hobbies and interests. An avid sports fan, he held a deep passion for the Seattle Sounders and Seahawks, ensuring he never missed a game, even during travels. He was excited about F1 racing as it gave him a connecting point with his grandson. His love of the great outdoors brought him immense joy. Whether exploring the Puget Sound on his Tide runner or cruising the San Juan Islands on a chartered trawler, Mike found solace in nature's beauty. His appreciation for sunsets and his passion for planning the perfect vacation were testaments to the thoughtful, romantic soul he was.
A man of intelligence, ethics, and generosity, Mike was known for his thoughtfulness and kindness. His stories, shared over countless family gatherings, will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to listen. Mike's legacy is one of deep love and connection, values he imparted to his family and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, especially Dr. Marina Jansen, Mike's cardiologist, for their exceptional care and support during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mike's memory to Wounded Warrior Project.
Michael Louis Hoelscher will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
