Michael Lee King

January 11, 1964 — July 11, 2026

Michael Lee King, a cherished husband, father, and friend, passed away on July 11, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri, at the age of 62. Born on January 11, 1964, in Lebanon, Missouri, Michael's life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and love. Raised by his grandparents, Freeda and Hershel Griffin, Michael was a beacon of light and joy despite facing significant challenges throughout his life. His parents, Carolyn Schunemeyer and Samuel King, instilled in him values that he carried with grace and dignity. Michael endured a long battle with diabetes and addiction, yet he remained perpetually optimistic, always greeting life with a smile. A master craftsman, Michael attended Lebanon schools where his passion for woodworking and carpentry took root. His skill and dedication led him to establish Kings Interior Specialties, a business where he poured his heart into creating intricate woodwork and master carpentry pieces. Though health issues eventually limited his ability to work, Michael never ceased to engage in the activities he loved, from crafting stained glass to playing guitar and writing songs. Michael's warmth and compassion extended beyond his family. He dedicated time to counseling those in need, sharing his own experiences to help others on their path to recovery. As an active member of his church and the local AA community, Michael's presence was a source of support and encouragement to many. In his personal life, Michael found profound joy with his beloved wife, Toni Thiele. They were married in July 2022 and together they built a life filled with love and companionship in Jefferson City, Missouri. Michael is survived by Toni, his devoted daughters Amber King of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mari Beth King of Springfield, Missouri, his son Hershel (Alex) King of Lebanon, Missouri, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and stepchildren. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren, who will forever remember their grandfather's enduring spirit and kindness. A celebration of Michael's life will take place on July 17, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at White Oak Pond Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor the memory of a man who touched so many lives with his warmth and generosity. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a local organization that supports addiction recovery and homeless assistance, causes that were dear to Michael's heart. His spirit will live on through the many lives he touched and the beauty he created, both in his work and in his relationships. Michael will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and resilience will remain a guiding light for all who knew him.
