Michael John Meesit

Michael John Meesit, a cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on April 27, 1963, in Park Ridge, Illinois, Michael was a beacon of warmth and kindness whose presence lit up every room he entered. His life, full of love and accomplishment, is celebrated by those who knew and loved him. Michael was the beloved son of Patricia Meesit and the late Jack Meesit. He grew up in a nurturing family environment that laid the foundation for his many achievements. A prodigious student, Michael graduated from Haines City High School a year ahead of his class in 1980. He pursued higher education at the University of Florida, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and Computer and Information Sciences in 1984 and a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1985. Throughout his career, Michael was known for his sharp intellect and innovative spirit. He spent many years as a Senior telemetry hardware and applications engineer at Loral and later as a Program Project Manager at Superior Electronics. His passion for building and problem-solving led him to obtain his Florida Home Inspector and Florida Building Contractor licenses, founding Acu-Spect Home Inspections in 2003, a business through which he helped countless families find their dream homes. Michael's professional life was complemented by his dedication to community service, particularly through his involvement with the Junior Chamber of Commerce. As the 67th President of the Sarasota Jaycees, he demonstrated exemplary leadership, later serving as District Director and Regional Director. His contributions were recognized with a prestigious Senatorship in 1994. In 1993, Michael married the love of his life, Maria, after a serendipitous meeting at a Sarasota Jaycee gathering. Together, they shared 33 wonderful years, raising their son, Matthew, and creating a home filled with laughter and adventure. His family was his pride and joy, and he relished every moment spent with them, whether on boating trips to the Florida Keys, fishing, or enjoying a quiet evening of board games and poker. Michael's quick wit, warm smile, and positive attitude endeared him to all who met him. Always ready with a supportive word or a joke to lighten the mood, he was a compassionate friend and a generous soul. His ability to fix almost anything and his willingness to help others were just a few of the many qualities that made him so deeply respected and loved. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maria; his son, Matthew Meesit; his mother, Patricia Meesit; his sister, Susan Haynes and her husband, Joseph; his aunt, Roberta Armstrong; his cousins, Steven Liss and his wife, Litta, and Rick Liss and his wife, Stephanie; and many close friends who will forever cherish his memory. A memorial service to celebrate Michael's life will be held on August 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Disabled American Veterans Post 97, located at 7177 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Florida 34241. The family invites all who knew Michael to join in honoring his remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Michael’s memory, reflecting his generous spirit and his commitment to supporting others.
