Michael Jess McLeary, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 8, 1954, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Michael was the cherished son of John D. McLeary and Norma Lou Wills. Throughout his life, Michael embodied kindness, dedication, and warmth. He touched the lives of many with his gentle spirit and unwavering commitment to those he loved. Michael was preceded in death by his father, John McLeary, his sister, Pauline Crays, his stepfather, Horace Vanmatre, and his stepbrother, Eddie VanMatre. On August 8, 1973, Michael married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Sue James, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter. Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy, their son Malcolm, and daughter-in-law Wendi. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to Martin and Holly, who were the lights of his life. Michael also leaves behind his beloved mother, Norma Lou VanMatre, his brother Johnny and sister-in-law Linda, along with numerous cousins who will cherish his memory. His family was his greatest treasure, and he was theirs. A man of many talents, Michael had an extraordinary ability to connect with others, always offering a helping hand or a listening ear. His legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew him.
