Michael Harvey Whitley Sr.
July 16, 1959 — March 25, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Michael Harvey Whitley Sr. on March 25, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on July 16, 1959, in Jasper, North Carolina, Michael was a son, brother, father, and grandfather.
Michael spent his formative years in Jasper. Where he spent his days being outside and working on the land.
He was preceded in death by his father James "Jimmy" Whitley and cherished sister, Gwen Whitley Morris.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Whitley Jr. and wife Carol of New Bern, Phillip Whitley of New Bern, and his youngest, James Whitley of the home, who was never far from his side. His grandchildren Madison, Phillip Jr. and Daisy Whitley of New Bern.
His brother, Buddy Whitley and wife Pam of Texas, and niece, Michele Morris Bullock and husband Troy of Greenville, as well as brother-in-law and friend Ray Morris of Greenville. Michael was the uncle to Dustin, Jared and Staci of Texas he also cared deeply for his great neice Karri and son Wyatt of Greenville.
Michael was a man of exceptional skill and dedication, working for many years as an HVAC technician with Comfort Air of New Bern. His mechanical inclination and hands-on expertise were admired by many, and he always took pride in his work. Beyond his professional life, Michael was a member of Brices Creek Bible Church of New Bern. Michael believed and knew he would spend eternity in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A man of varied interests, Michael found joy and peace in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed fishing, farming, and enjoyed tinkering, who could often be found working on cars and equipment. His love for classic cars, coins, and NASCAR was well-known, and his enthusiasm was infectious to those around him. He loved a good word search puzzle book as well. His years spent in Cub Scouts with his sons, Michael and Phillip, were a testament to his commitment to family and community.
Those who knew Michael will remember him as a hardworking man who loved his children, especially his youngest, James.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on April 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Brices Creek Bible Church, located at 4250 US-70 New Bern, NC 28560. The family invites those who knew and loved Michael to join them in honoring his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House, whose compassionate care provided solace and comfort during Michael's final days. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Carolina East Medical Center and Crystal Coast Hospice House for their exceptional love and care.
Michael Harvey Whitley Sr. will be remembered for his kindness, his talents, and the love he bestowed upon all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit endures in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will be dearly missed.
