March 20, 1945 — July 30, 2026

Michael G. Powell passed away on July 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 81 years old. Michael was a proud Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Navy, and his service to his country remained an important part of who he was throughout his life. He carried with him the strength, determination, loyalty, and quiet courage of his generation. More than anything he was a devoted and loving father and grandfather. Family was at the center of his life. He loved deeply, protected fiercely, and was always there for the people who needed him. His family knew they could depend on him—not only during life’s important moments, but in the countless ordinary moments that ultimately become the memories we cherish most. During the final chapter of his life, Michael was able to remain close to his family, surrounded by the people who loved and cared for him. Even through difficult days, the bond between father and family remained constant. Michael leaves behind a family whose lives are better because he was part of them. His lessons, stories, strength, humor, and unconditional love will continue through his children, grandchildren, and the generations that follow. For those who loved him, his passing leaves an absence that can never truly be filled. But there is also profound gratitude—for 81 years of life, for his service to his country, for the family he helped build, and for the privilege of calling him Dad. He is survived by his children Amy, Kim, and Michael; his sister Patricia; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Miramar National Cemetery, a fitting final resting place for a man who proudly served his country. A devoted father. A proud veteran. A man who loved his family fiercely. Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.

To Those Whom I Love

When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears, Be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love. You can only guess How much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown, But now it's time I travelled on alone. So grieve awhile for me, if grieve you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a while that we must part, So bless the memories that lie within your heart.
