Michael Emanuel Carr

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Emanuel Carr, aged 74, who peacefully departed this world at home, embraced by the love of his cherished family. Born on February 6, 1952, in the vibrant city of Chicago, IL, Michael was a man of deep faith, enduring love, and unwavering dedication to family and friends. Michael was the beloved son of Nathaniel Allen and Anna Wright, both of whom preceded him in death. He joins his dear grandparents, his cherished wife Tonette Carr, his brother Tyran, and granddaughter Diamond in eternal rest. Michael is survived by his devoted children: Krystal Carr, Florence (David) Swope, Copres (Rose) Carr, and Michael Jr. (Renita) Carr. His siblings, Andre Allen, Reshanda Medlin, Marvin (Dawanda) Carr, Veronica Carr, and Marlon Graves, will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. Michael was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren: David Jr. (Kyndra), Daniel (Jessica), J'Keyah, Marianna, Brandon, Jonathan, Javion, Destiny, Michael III, Macaih, Cash, and Milani. His legacy continues through his 10 great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. In 1970, Michael graduated from Marshall High School in Chicago. He pursued a fulfilling career as a Respiratory Therapist, dedicating himself to the well-being of others until his retirement in 2019. Michael found solace and strength in his faith, attending New Beginnings Ministries World Wide, where he joyfully praised God and often proclaimed, "My God and my King!" On January 28, 1977, Michael married the love of his life, Tonette Clay. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, celebrating 45 wonderful years of marriage before her passing. His love for Tonette was a testament to his unwavering loyalty and devotion. Michael's hobbies reflected his zest for life and his love for those around him. Whether he was fishing, delving into historical discussions, or watching old westerns, his enthusiasm was contagious. A renowned storyteller, he had a unique knack for narrating movie plots, ensuring that anyone watching with him would need a second viewing to fully appreciate the film. A loving and supportive father, Michael was known for his high expectations, encouraging his children to be self-sufficient and pursue a prosperous life. His mother instilled in him a strong work ethic, and he was often affectionately known as CoBack or Casanova. Michael relished sharing stories and teaching swimming to his kids, grandkids, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of Michael's life will be held on August 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Leak and Sons Funeral Home, located at 7838 S. Cottage Grove Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in Michael's memory. Michael Emanuel Carr will be remembered for his love of life, his devotion to family, and his faith. His legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
