Michael Earl Barton

October 16, 1945 — May 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Earl Barton, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on October 16, 1945, in Massachusetts, Michael peacefully departed this life on May 25, 2026, at Tufts Medical Center, surrounded by the immense love of his family. He was 80 years old. Michael was the cherished son of the late Donald and Velma Barton and the devoted brother to Dennis Barton and Kathy (Barton) Knauer. He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Don and Graham Barton, but leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be carried on by his family. Michael's journey through life was marked by his unwavering optimism and resilience, even during his final months. He faced complications from pneumonia and heart difficulties with cheerfulness and alertness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Sandra Aleta Barton, held his hand as he embarked on his final journey, and she is profoundly grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at Tufts Medical Center. A devoted family man, Michael's life was enriched by his marriage to Aleta in Red Bank, New Jersey, in 1978. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their daughters Kerry (Barton) Greene and her partner Joshua Littlefield, O'Malley Barton, Wallis (Barton) Reed and her husband Josh Reed, McKenzie Barton, and their son Stephen Barton. Michael was also the proud grandfather of three treasured grandchildren: Henry and Michael Reed, and Fox Greene. Education was a cornerstone of Michael's life, and he pursued his passion for music by earning a degree in voice from the University of Colorado. Although his career led him to the automotive industry, his love for music remained a constant companion throughout his life. Michael shared his talents with everyone he met, often serenading those around him with a song or a whistle, accompanied by his warm smile and twinkling blue eyes. Michael's career was a testament to his love for engines and the automotive world. He worked for several companies, including Motorvac, Bear, Lapin, and Supersprings, establishing friendships that stretched along the eastern seaboard. His passion for stock car racing saw him both driving and managing pits at Wall Stadium in New Jersey during the '80s and '90s. Most recently, Michael found joy and fulfillment as a professional driver with Pro-Limo Cape Cod, where he made lasting impressions with his passengers and colleagues alike. An accomplished mechanic and handyman, Michael spent countless hours in his garage, tinkering with old cars and completing home improvement projects that ranged from flower boxes to custom bunk beds for his children. His creativity and craftsmanship were matched only by his generous spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand. Michael was known for his quick wit and calm presence, often serving as the anchor in a bustling household filled with the energy of four daughters and a loving wife. His legacy of kindness, humor, and resilience will forever be cherished by those who knew him best. In accordance with Michael's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to honor his memory. The Barton family kindly requests that you keep Michael in your fondest memories and hold onto the joyous moments shared with him. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many dedicated professionals at Tufts Medical Center for their attentive and compassionate care during Michael's final days.
