It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Michael E. Brown, affectionately known as "Brownie," on May 30, 2026. Mike was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Born on June 18, 1950, in the close-knit community of Danville, IL, he was the cherished son of the late J. Herbert and Florence Brown.
Mike was a man of many talents and interests, living a life rich in love and laughter. A graduate of BHHS in 1968, he pursued a career in information technology, earning a degree from IBM. His dedication and hard work were evident during his impressive 46-year career as the Global IT Manager for Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, from which he retired in 2016.
In October of 1994, Mike married the love of his life, Robin in their hometown of Danville, IL. Together, they created a beautiful blended family filled with warmth and joy. Mike's greatest passion was his family, and he was the proud father of Trevor Brown, Britany Brown, Ginger (Caleb) Brown, CJ Ahrens, and Marah (Scott) Showers. His legacy of love continues through his nine adored grandchildren, Cash and Gianna Brown; Kaden, Spencer, Myles and Tristan Showers; Tavin, Asher and Brynn Funk who knew him as their beloved "Papaw."
Mike's devotion to his community was unwavering. He served as the Mayor of the Village of Bismarck from 2019 until his passing, where his leadership and commitment made a lasting impact. His willingness to help anyone in need and his infectious smile were hallmarks of his character, earning him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.
A lover of the great outdoors, Mike found peace in activities such as fishing and horseback riding. He was a passionate traveler, but nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren. His heart of gold and generous spirit were evident in every aspect of his life, and his memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Robin, his children, and his siblings: brother Dale Brown, sister Connie (Terry) Corn, and brother Jim (Sue) Brown. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love that will continue to inspire those he touched. He was predeceased by his parents, his mother-in-law Betsy Dillon, his sister-in-law Lona Brown, and his nephew Andy Brown.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held on Saturday June 13, 2026 at the Bismarck Men's Club, located in Bismarck, IL.
