Michael Kurvers
October 23, 1954 — August 27, 2026
Michael Kurvers, beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and honored friend, passed away on August 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and love. Born on October 23, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa, Michael was the cherished son of Jeanne and Theo Kurvers. He is predeceased by his mother, Jeanne, and his sister, Penny Kurvers.
Michael's life was a tapestry of service, commitment, and passion. He spent his early years in Corona, California, where he graduated from Corona High School. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Loyola Marymount University and San Jose State University, where he earned a degree in criminal justice. A patriot at heart, Michael served in the US Army, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. His responsibilities as a Morse code operator and later as a tracks squad leader in the army engineers division demonstrated his unwavering dedication to his country.
After his military service, Michael embarked on a career in law enforcement, serving as a police officer for the San Jose State Police Department and later in Cotati, California, for 19 years. His commitment to justice and service did not end there; he excelled at the State Compensation Insurance Fund as a claims adjuster, where he was recognized as a top one percent performer.
Michael's life was enriched by his involvement in his community and his faith. An active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, he was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus and proudly served in the 4th degree color guard. As a volunteer at the St. Francis of Assisi Food Pantry, he exemplified the spirit of giving and compassion.
His love for life was evident in his hobbies and passions. A die-hard San Francisco Giants fan, Michael planned many vacations with his beloved wife of 28 years, Janet, around baseball games, visiting numerous stadiums across the country with dear friends Terry Dutra and Val Kingsbury. An avid reader, Michael delighted in the library he had custom-built in their home. Most importantly, he adored being known as "Pop" to his three grandchildren—Madeleine, Morgan, and Cole.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Janet; his devoted stepson Christopher and daughter-in-law Kaleh; his cherished father Theo Kurvers, brother Mark and sister-in-law Traci; beloved sister Krista Kurvers, nieces Allison Drew (Gregory) and Jillian Kurvers; and nephew Steven Kurvers (Anna), brothers in law; Michael Simpson (Rosemary), Steve Simpson, Sisters in law ; Barbara Wasley (Bill), Barbara Ziebron (Mike), and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. His family and friends will forever remember him for his passion for environmental causes, truth, justice, faith, good wine, great food, and, of course, baseball.
