Michael Douglas Scott

December 5, 1943 — April 16, 2026

Michael Douglas Scott, a man whose spirit of curiosity and warmth touched all who knew him, passed away on April 16, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on December 5, 1943, in Los Angeles, California, Michael's life was a testament to the joy of discovery and the power of love. The son of Douglas Scott and Gladys Wyler Scott, Michael was instilled with a sense of wonder from an early age. His educational journey took him from Reed College to Loyal Marymount University, where he completed his degree, and then to UCLA, where he earned his law degree. A lifelong learner, Michael's passion for knowledge never waned. In 1966, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with honor as a medic in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. This experience further deepened his compassion and resilience. Upon returning home, he embarked on a distinguished career in law, working first with TRE Corp and later with Alcoa, where he made significant contributions from 1986 until his retirement in 2014. On April 29, 1967, Michael married the love of his life, Suzie Archer. Together, they built a life rich with love and laughter, welcoming their children, Kimberley Baxter and Christopher Drespel, into the world. Michael's role as a father was one he cherished deeply, and he took immense pride in his nine grandchildren: Ella, Juniper, Sean, Meg, Nicolas, Phoebe, and Willow. They were his joy, and he delighted in sharing his passions with them. Michael's love of travel and food was legendary. He found joy in discovering new restaurants and sourcing the perfect ingredients for his culinary creations, which he lovingly shared with family and friends. His fascination with science and technology, particularly his devotion to science fiction and space exploration, was infectious. Michael was known for his early adoption of technology, and his enthusiasm for the latest gadgets was a source of amusement and admiration. Described by those who knew him as funny, quick-witted, and generous, Michael had a unique ability to see the good in people and appreciate the absurdities of life. His home, shared with Suzie, was a welcoming haven for all, reflecting his quiet generosity and deep sense of play. His love for a good pun often brought smiles, even if it occasionally caused groans from his family. Michael leaves behind his beloved wife, Suzie, his children, Kimberley and Christopher, and his cherished grandchildren. His legacy of love, laughter, and curiosity will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
