Celebrating the Life of Michael Devoy Johnson Sr. January 12, 1969 – August 28, 2026 “A Family Man. A Kind Soul. A Legacy of Love.” Michael Devoy Johnson Sr., lovingly known as “Papa Smurf,” was a man whose life was centered around family, love, laughter, and bringing people together. Born in Houston, Texas, his presence had a way of making people feel welcomed, and wherever he went, he became more than a friend—he became family. Michael was a devoted family man with a heart big enough to embrace an entire village. The name Papa Smurf represented exactly who he was: someone people could look to, laugh with, learn from, and count on. He had a special gift for making people feel like they belonged. He was the cherished father of four children: Brittany Johnson, Michael Johnson Jr., LaPorche Johnson, and Tanesha Johnson. His legacy of love continues through his five adored grandchildren: Zyron Pumarejo, Christopher Perez, Amya Torres, Zania Stewart, and Kendall. Michael's family was the centerpiece of his life, and his greatest joy was found in their laughter and companionship. One of Michael’s greatest ways of showing love was through his cooking. Known as one of the best cooks around, he didn't simply prepare meals—he created memories. He was in the process of starting a catering business, "Let's Eat Catering," which was a testament to his passion for bringing people together over delicious food. Food brought everyone together, and Michael knew how to fill both a plate and a room with love. An avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Michael shared his enthusiasm for football with those around him. His cheers and excitement were infectious, embodying his zest for life and the joy he found in simple pleasures. Michael’s greatest legacy will always be the love he had for his family. The lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, the meals he prepared, and the memories he created will continue to live through everyone blessed to have known him. Although our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for every moment God allowed us to share with Michael. His earthly journey may have ended peacefully at home, but the love he gave us will never leave. As we celebrate his life, we choose to remember the man behind the name: Michael Devoy Johnson Sr.—our family, our friend, our Papa Smurf. His chair may be empty, but his place in our family can never be filled by another. Rest peacefully, Michael. Little York, Suite 124. The family welcomes all who knew and loved him to join in celebrating his remarkable life.
