Michael Dean States

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Dean States, who departed this world on August 19, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 17, 1963, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Mike lived a life rich with love, laughter, and dedication to his family and passions. Mike was the beloved son of Joan M. States and the late Max States. His early years in Kansas were filled with the warmth and togetherness of family, values he carried throughout his life. He was predeceased by his father, Max States; his brother, Scott Huffaker, his sisters Peggy Bruno And Carla States ; his mother-in-law, Nellie Rodriguez; his father-in-law, Michael Rodriguez; his brother-in-law, Bart Rodriguez; and his nephew, Vincente Valdivieso and niece Laura. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his beloved wife, Colleen States, and his devoted mother, Joan States. Mike was a proud father to his daughters, Andrea Peterson and JulieAnne Benard, and his sons, Brandon and Tyler States. He was also a doting grandfather to ten grandchildren: grandsons Billy, Dominic, Anthony, Jordan, Mason, and Aiden, and granddaughters Brooklyn, Jasmine, Arriya, and Jenny. His family extended through the bonds of marriage with his son-in-laws, Eric Benard and Eddie Peterson, and his daughter-in-law, Sabrina Montez. Mike is also survived by his brother-in-laws, Paul and Chris Rodriguez, sister-in-laws Alex Bardwell and Therese Rodriguez and his brother, Ronald Huffaker. And many nieces and nephews. Professionally, Mike was a skilled auto body painter whose work was a testament to his meticulous nature and dedication to craftsmanship. Beyond his career, Mike was an avid fisherman, hunter, and grill master. He delighted in the simple joys of mushroom hunting and the artistry of auto painting, passions that brought him peace and fulfillment. Mike was known for his infectious humor and his remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him. He was a wonderful grandfather, always ready with a joke or a piece of cooking advice, endearing him to his grandchildren who adored him. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was profound and unwavering. A service to honor and celebrate Mike's life will be held on September 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Gamber Community Center, located at 4 SE Independence Ave, Lees Summit, MO 64063. In this time of sorrow, the family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff at KC Hospice House for providing care that was truly beyond wonderful. Mike's life was a testament to love, family, and laughter, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
