Michael Burnham

Michael Burnham, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on August 14, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on June 28, 1955, in Macomb, Illinois, Michael was the cherished son of the late Frank Kermit and Donna Lee Burnham. He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents Ira and Zelma Burnham, Howard and Gladys Moon, and his step-grandson Cody Hickey.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Shirley, who shared a remarkable journey of life and love with him since they married on July 22, 1989. Michael is also survived by his sister, Cindy Henninger, and her husband Joe, along with their sons, his nephews Adam and Jay Henninger. He will be fondly remembered by Shirley’s sons, Kevin and Joe Hickey, as well as many nieces and nephews from Shirley’s side. Michael was a proud grandfather to three adored grandchildren.
A graduate of Rushville High School with the class of 1973, Michael went on to establish a fulfilling career. He was a bartender at Bonnie & Clyde’s in Industry for a few years before managing the FS plants in Macomb and Adair, Illinois, a position he held with dedication for 42 years until his retirement in 2021.
Michael was an active member of his community, contributing his time and energy to the New Salem Fire Department for many years and serving on the New Salem Township board. His commitment to service reflected the generous spirit for which he was known.
Those who knew Michael will remember his quick wit and infectious humor—he was always ready with a joke to brighten your day. He cherished the moments spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with joy and laughter.
A memorial service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held on August 25, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Clugston-Tibbits Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the New Salem Fire Department.
Michael Burnham's memory will forever be held dear by those who knew and loved him. His legacy of laughter and love will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all who had the privilege of sharing in his life.
