It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Michael Aaron James, who departed this life on June 18, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on November 7, 1959, in the bustling city of New York, Michael was the cherished son of Gladys D. Kershaw-James and Major Chancellor James, Jr. He was a beacon of light and laughter, whose life was a symphony of love, music, and dedication.
Michael's journey in music began early, and he pursued this passion with fervor at Francis Marion University. A gifted musician, Michael spent countless years as the devoted church musician at Saint Andrews AME Church. His melodies were not just notes in the air, but expressions of his faith and love, touching the hearts of all who were fortunate to hear them. His commitment to the church extended beyond music as he organized numerous health fairs, promoting wellness and healthy living within the community. His unwavering dedication made a lasting impact, leaving an indelible mark on the congregation and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Beyond his musical talents, Michael was a man of the earth, finding solace and joy on his beloved farm. Whether tending to his plants or caring for his animals, he found peace in the simplicity and beauty of nature. These quiet moments on his farm were a reflection of his gentle spirit and profound appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
Michael was renowned for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. To be in his presence was to be enveloped in laughter and joy. He had an innate gift for bringing smiles to faces and warmth to hearts, and his laughter will echo in the memories of those who loved him.
An ardent follower of politics, Michael was deeply engaged in the democratic process, often involving himself in elections and encouraging others to participate. His enthusiasm for civic duty was a testament to his belief in the power of community and positive change.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his devoted wife, Dr. Beverly B. James, his beloved children, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. His absence leaves an irreplaceable void, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
