With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Mervell Dewayne Ellis, Sr., on May 30, 2026, at the age of 64. Born on November 22, 1961, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mervell was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, whose presence left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His final moments were spent surrounded by the love and warmth of all three of his cherished children by his bedside. Mervell was the son of the late Lawrence and Opal Ellis and was predeceased by his siblings Ronald Dee Ellis (RonDee), Donald Lee Ellis (Snoop), Mandel Ellis (Bud), Manuel Ellis (Red), Cyretta Hooker (Ellis), Fayetta Ellis (Faye), and Delorestine Ellis (Stennie). He is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela Ellis, and their children, Mariah Ellis, Nicole Ellis, and Mervell (Christina) Ellis, Jr. (Doc). His brother, David Ellis, also survives him, as do his nine adored grandchildren: Stacey Simms, Quincy Ellis, Anessa Ross, Quintez Seamster, Quintrel Seamster, Quin’Nyla Seamster, Quincere Seamster, Devyn Purry, and Melody Rideau. He had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mervell’s journey began at Grant High School, where he completed his education before embarking on a fulfilling career as a self-employed car detailer. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as he developed his own unique car shampoo and secured numerous contracts throughout the metro area. Yet, it was his role as a Reverend at Holy United Church that truly defined him. For over two decades, Mervell was a pillar of faith and community at Holy United Church before becoming an active and cherished member of the Secret Place Community Church. His love for God was unyielding, and his ability to connect with people was unmatched. Known for his infectious smile and boundless goofiness, Mervell never met a stranger and always made others feel special, loved, and valued. Beyond his professional and spiritual endeavors, Mervell was a man of varied interests. He delighted in church activities, shopping, fashion, family gatherings, dining, and enjoying time at the lake. A talented musician, he was always eager to bring joy to those around him. Mervell had a remarkable gift for making people smile and was a father figure to many beyond his immediate family. Mervell's life will be celebrated on June 20, 2026, at Holy United Church, located at 1325 NE 50th Street. The service will commence at 10:00 a.m., as we gather to honor the enduring legacy of a man whose strength and determination were truly inspirational. The Ellis family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Rolfe Funeral Home, Holy United Church, and Secret Place Community Church. They also wish to thank every family member and friend who offered support through calls, texts, meals, and encouraging words. Your kindness has been a source of comfort and strength.
