Merlynn Jean Foppiano

Merlynn Jean Foppiano, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on August 29, 2026. Born on August 2, 1957, in Linden, California, Merlynn lived her life with a humble heart, quiet strength, and an unwavering commitment to the people she loved. Merlynn was the daughter of the late Carl and Frances Fleming, and was also preceded in death by her brother, Jeffrey. She leaves behind her children—Jamie Setterquist (Matthew) of Salinas, Ca, Lia Foppiano (Dustin) of and Angela Johnson (Corey) of Arroyo Grande—to whom she offered her lifelong love, guidance, and patience. Her spirit and legacy live on through her nine grandchildren who were her greatest source of joy and pride: Alexa, Brookelynn, Layla, Joseph, and Madison Setterquist; Brody and Bailey Foppiano; and James and Jade Johnson. She is also survived by her siblings, Richard Fleming of Victor Fleming of Hugh Fleming III of Arroyo Grande, and Carla Shafer of Lodi, as well as her former husband James Foppiano (Avila Beach) and partner John Carson (Oceano). A graduate of Linden High School, Merlynn carried the values of honesty, hard work, and loyalty throughout her journey. She was known for her generous nature and modest spirit—always willing to extend a helping hand without expectation, and showing up for others whenever they were in need. Though her life had its share of triumphs and challenges, she approached each day with resilience, a gentle heart, and a genuine love for bringing people together. A service celebrating Merlynn's life will be held on September 11, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Lady Family Mortuary, 555 Fair Oaks Ave, Arroyo Grande, CA 93420. Family and friends are invited to gather the following day, Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Arroyo Grande Cemetery to lay her to rest.
