In Loving Memory

Merle Ulch Jr (coffee)
September 24, 1953 — June 13, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Merle, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left us peacefully at home on June 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. Born on September 24, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio, Merle's life was a testament to love, laughter, and resilience.
Merle was the cherished son of the late Merle Ulch and Geraldine Paupard, and he is now reunited with them in eternal peace. He is deeply missed by his siblings, Donald Ulch and Mark Paupard, who shared in the joy and challenges of life's journey.
A man of many talents and interests, Merle dedicated his professional life to the papermill, where he was known for his hard work and dedication. Outside of work, his passions were as varied as they were vibrant. An avid fisherman, he found peace on the water, casting his line with the hope and patience of a true angler. He was also known for his love of riding his Harley motorcycle, feeling the freedom of the open road beneath him.
Merle had a unique gift for making people smile with his quick wit and playful nature. He was well-known among friends and family, especially the ladies, as "coffee" because he always said he grinds so fine. This playful spirit was matched by a heart full of generosity; he bought every one of his grandchildren their first bicycles, a gesture that spoke to his love for family and his desire to see them enjoy life’s simple pleasures.
He found immense joy in life's simplest delights, like savoring tamales under the high-level bridge, where the serene waters provided a backdrop for reflection and relaxation. Merle's sarcasm and flirting were endearing traits that brought laughter to those around him, and his legacy of humor will live on in the stories shared by those who knew him.
Merle's memory is lovingly carried forward by his sons, Merle (Sherry), Jason (Monique), and Kenny (Lindsey), and his grandchildren Santanna (Jon), Myah (Ace), Savannah (Evan), Jonathan, Ashley (Christian), Taylor (Mason), Jeremiah, Jason Jr., Jordan, Logan, and KJ. His legacy is further enriched by his eight great-grandchildren, who will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandfather's adventures and spirit.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at Care 360 Hospice for their compassionate care during Merle’s final days. Their kindness and professionalism provided comfort to Merle and his family during a challenging time. Additionally, the family wishes to thank American Cremation for their hospitality and support.
In respect of Merle's wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor his life and bid farewell. While the service remains intimate, the family invites you to celebrate his life by sharing a story or raising a toast in his memory, keeping his light alive in your hearts.
Merle’s passing leaves an indelible void, but his spirit will forever be remembered in the laughter, love, and lives of those he touched.
