In Loving Memory of Mercedes Gamiotea With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Mercedes Gamiotea on June 5, 2026, at the age of 88. Mercedes was born on July 30, 1937, in the serene town of La Provincia de Las Villas, Esperanza, Cuba, a place she carried fondly in her heart throughout her life. Mercedes was the cherished daughter of Felipe and Justa Mendoza and is now reunited with them alongside her siblings Merida, Ebria Maria, Dago, Adelfa, Orlando, Angela, and Pura in eternal rest. At the tender age of 18, Mercedes ventured to the United States in 1955, seeking new horizons and opportunities. Her journey led her to Miami, Florida, where she met the love of her life, Charlie Gamiotea. They wed on August 4, 1956, and spent the next 70 years building a life rich in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together, they lovingly raised two sons, Charles and Robert, in Hialeah, a city that witnessed the unfolding of their beautiful family story. Mercedes’ professional journey was marked by dedication and grace. She contributed her talents to several esteemed companies, including Saxon, Johnson & Johnson, and Cordis, from where she retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and integrity. An exemplary matriarch, Mercedes’ life was a testament to her deep devotion to family. Her world lit up with the arrival of her grandchildren, Daniel, Angela, Adrian, Priscila, and Robert Jr., and later, her great-grandchildren, Gianna, Alessia, Levi, Ava, and Milo. She adored watching her grandsons, Daniel and Adrian, play baseball, a sport that became her passion. Rain or shine, she was their biggest fan, always present at their games, cheering them on with a heart full of pride. Mercedes was a woman of remarkable warmth and humility. Known for her loving nature and perpetual smile, she touched the lives of all who knew her. Her kindness and gentle spirit left an indelible mark, and she will be remembered as a beacon of love and grace. Mercedes leaves behind her beloved husband, Charlie, their sons Charles and Mayte, Robert and Kathi, her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a legacy of love that will endure through the many lives she touched. While we mourn the loss of Mercedes, we also celebrate the incredible journey of a life filled with love, perseverance, and joy. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will forever be cherished in our hearts. A celebration of Mercedes’ life will be held in the coming days, where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable journey and bid farewell to a truly extraordinary woman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to organizations supporting dementia research, continuing Mercedes’ legacy of love and care for others. Rest in peace, dear Mercedes. Your love will guide us until we meet again.
