With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Melvin Gallop Jr., a cherished son, brother, and friend, who left this world on May 20, 2026, at the tender age of 29. Melvin was born on December 15, 1996, in Elizabeth City, where he spent his life surrounded by the love of family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. Melvin was the beloved son of Linnea Perry and Jimmy Banks, who nurtured him with unconditional love and guidance. He is survived by his devoted brothers, Tahj Perry and Reginald Banks, who shared in his joys and supported him through life’s challenges. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. A proud alumnus of Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, NC, Melvin was known for his kind heart and generous spirit. As a student, he exhibited a natural compassion and warmth that endeared him to classmates and teachers alike. His gentle demeanor and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of crossing his path. Beyond his academic pursuits, Melvin had an undeniable zest for life. He could often be found exploring the beauty of nature, enjoying long walks, and capturing the world through his lens, as he was an avid photographer. Melvin’s photographs revealed his unique perspective and appreciation for the simple and profound moments in life. Melvin’s legacy is one of love, empathy, and joy. He was a beacon of positivity, always ready with a smile and a comforting word for those in need. His presence brought light and laughter into the lives of all who knew him. Though his time with us was far too short, the memories he created will be cherished by all. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Melvin are invited to celebrate his life and bid farewell at a service on May 29, 2026. The service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Stephen’s Baptist Church, located at 506 New York St. Together, we will honor a remarkable young man who brought so much love into the world. As we remember Melvin, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness and compassion, ensuring that his spirit continues to inspire and uplift us all. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Melvin’s memory to a charity close to his heart, reflecting his lifelong dedication to helping others.
