Melvin was the beloved son of the late John and Mary Elder, who instilled in him the values of integrity and compassion. Growing up in a nurturing home, he was also the brother of the late William Elder, whose memory he cherished deeply. Educated in the Virginia County school system, Melvin demonstrated an early aptitude for leadership and service, qualities that would define his career and personal life. For many years, Melvin dedicated himself to his work as a Chief, a role in which he exemplified excellence, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and community members alike. His commitment to his profession was only surpassed by his devotion to his family, whom he cherished above all else. Melvin is survived by his five loving children: Anthony (Karen), Joshua, Joseph, Aaron, and David. His legacy continues through his four adored grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. In addition to his immediate family, Melvin leaves behind a host of relatives and friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity. His life will be celebrated on May 30, 2026, at 3:30 PM at 2521 Corlies Street, Philadelphia, PA 19132.
