Melvin E. Bryant, affectionately known as "Doc," was born on October 10, 1948, in the serene hills of West Virginia. He passed away on September 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to family and community.
Doc was the son of Melvin Bryant and Virginia Shelton Bryant, who predeceased him, along with his beloved wife, Charlotte Womack Bryant, to whom he was married for over 40 years until her passing in 2011. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Ally Gay Bryant and Candi Bryant, son-in-law Steve Ingles, nephews Patrick Womack and Lil Allen Boudreaux, and niece Krystal Rivet.
Doc is survived by his devoted significant other, Katie Glover, with whom he shared over a decade of companionship. Together, they enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, from working on lawn mowers to enjoying the great outdoors.
He was a loving father to four daughters: Diane Fitzpatrick (Tim), Virgie Ingles, Kelley Respass (Ray), and Jennifer Songy (Rick), and a cherished stepfather to Robert Mines Jr. (Lisa), Joshua Glover (Marla), and Beth Wing. He is also survived by his siblings, Karen Moran, Barbara Bryant, and Daniel Bryant (Renee), who each held a special place in his heart.
Doc’s legacy extends to his numerous grandchildren, including Devin Shinogle (Kelly), Kassidy Shinogle (Christopher), William Clayton Shinogle-Gutierrez (Helmer), Chaz Shinogle (Katie) Terilyn Shores-Fleming (Eric), Raquel Ingles (Galen), Joshua Ingles, Peyton Ingles, Stehanie Ingles,, Steven Ingles, Chad Ingles, Nathan Respass, Megan Respass, Teddy Ray Respass, Christopher Bryant, Alyssa Songy-Seal (Deric), RJ Songy, Brandon Mines, Dawson Mines, Robert Mines III, Kaitlyn Mines, Sahara Quinn, Katie Quinn, Wyatt Wing, Damien Glover, Steven Glover, and Savana Vaughn (Jesse). His joy knew no bounds with his great-grandchildren: Cameron, DMien. Jacie Braelyn, Rylie, Rylan, Scarlett, Hunter, Sky, Heaven, River, Alyssa, Holden, Bella, Blake, Graham, and BJ.
He is also survived by many Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews as well as many Cousins.
An industrious and skilled man, Doc retired as a chiropractor in Louisiana after a successful career as a foreman at Metro Machine in Pennsylvania. Upon retirement, he returned to Louisiana, where he and Charlotte built a loving home in Franklinton. Following Charlotte’s passing, he moved to Magnolia, MS, where he continued to indulge in his hobbies of fixing things and staying active outdoors.
Doc's love for sports, particularly the New Orleans Saints and the indomitable Drew Brees, was well-known among his friends and family. He spent many afternoons cheering on his favorite teams, filling the room with laughter and camaraderie.
A man of generosity and humor, Doc had an innate ability to connect with people, bringing joy and light into the lives of everyone he encountered. His easy-going nature and penchant for jokes endeared him to many, leaving a lasting impression that will be fondly remembered.
The celebration of Doc's life will take place on October 6, 2026, at 12:30 PM at Restlawn Cemetery, located at 3450 Hwy 90, Avondale, LA 70094. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of your choice, honoring Doc's spirit of giving.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Craft Funeral of McComb, Mississippi, and Restlawn Cemetery for their compassion and care during this difficult time. Doc's memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
