Born on September 6, 1930, in the vibrant city of San Francisco, California, Mel's life was a rich tapestry of service, family, and philanthropy.
Melvin's early years were spent in the schools of San Francisco, where he laid the foundation for a life of learning and service. A true patriot, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, bravely serving in Korea. Upon returning home, Melvin focused his energies on building a family, marrying the love of his life, Myrna Davis. Together, they moved to South San Francisco, welcoming two sons, Mark and Michael, into their family.
After Myrna’s passing, Melvin found companionship and love with his partners, Penny and Babe Martin, who continued to bring joy and warmth into his life. His professional journey led him to a career in food retail services, culminating in his retirement from QFI. Driven by a desire to give back, Melvin invested in property holdings, which allowed him to support many philanthropic endeavors. His generous contributions to Sutter Hospital and the City of South San Francisco, particularly the local library, are lasting reminders of his commitment to community growth and development.
Beyond his professional and philanthropic achievements, Melvin's life was filled with simple pleasures. He had a passion for tinkering with clocks, finding immense satisfaction in fixing things, and nurturing his garden. His love for the outdoors was shared with his son Michael, with whom he enjoyed many hunting and fishing expeditions. He enjoyed attending SSF City events with son the councilman and Mayor iof SSf. Time spent in Sonoma provided Melvin with peace and happiness, as he tended to his garden and basked in the beauty of nature.
Melvin's legacy is carried forward by his two cherished grandchildren Randy and Shelley and two great-grandchildren, He is predeceased by his parents and siblings leaving behind a family imbued with the values of love, strength.
