Melody Butler

April 16, 1961 — September 26, 2026

Melody Butler, a gentle soul who graced our lives with her quiet presence and warm smile, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026, in Los Angeles, California. Born on April 16, 1961, in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, Melody was the cherished daughter of the late Mr. James and Mrs. Thelma Butler. She was predeceased by her loving parents, sisters Darlene Johnson and Linda R. Simms, and brothers Alexander Simms, Edward J. Thompson, and Ivy Butler. Melody’s life was a beautiful testament to the power of love and family. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Shirley A. Thompson, Lorrie S. Butler, and Portland T. Butler. And brother Michael (Diease) Thompson. Her family was the center of her world, and her love for them was evident in her every action. A proud alumna of John Muir Jr. High and Manuel Arts High School, Melody furthered her education by obtaining an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. Melody’s dedication to her education was matched only by her commitment to her work and her family. She served as a church secretary at Testimonial Cathedral Church, where her administrative skills and caring nature were a perfect fit. Melody’s most profound role, however, was as the primary caregiver for her mother, a testament to her deep sense of family duty and compassion. Melody was an active and cherished member of Testimonial Cathedral, where she found joy and purpose in the church choir. She participated in a recording and is pictured on the album cover. She got an opportunity to travel with the choir. Her melodious voice was a source of inspiration and comfort to all who heard it. Because of her mother's failing health, and Melody suffering a stroke, she was unable to continue participating in the church. Outside of her commitments, she found peace in the great outdoors, often sitting quietly in the sun and reveling in the beauty of her surroundings. Melody’s life was marked by her quiet strength and her ability to be present in the moment, offering a smile that could light up any room. Her gentle nature and love for her family were the hallmarks of her character, making her a beloved figure in the lives of those who knew her. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Melody’s life will be held on November 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Vision of Hope Church, located at 9719 South Avalon Blvd., Los Angeles, CA.
