February 28, 1934 — July 6, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Melly Idleman on July 6, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on February 28, 1934, in Port Orange, Florida, Melly was the cherished daughter of the late Charles and Gracie Swain. Throughout her journey, she touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and nurturing spirit. Melly is predeceased by her loving husband, David, with whom she shared 57 wonderful years of marriage filled with love and adventure. Their story began in Douglas, Georgia, where Melly, a young woman with a heart full of dreams, met a charming young man from Kentucky while working at a tobacco warehouse. Despite her father's initial advice, the family welcomed David with open arms, and a beautiful love story unfolded. Together, they traveled across Europe and the United States, raising a family grounded in love and unity. Melly was the proud mother of Tracie Yates, married to Sam, and Meegan Perkins, married to Dan. She was also a loving mother-in-law to Shae, and a devoted grandmother to Christopher, married to Jennifer, and Garrett Perkins. Her legacy continues in her great-grandchildren: Zoey, Miley, Selby, Emma, Kendall, Levi, Presley, Danica, and Donovan, who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts. A graduate of Douglas High School in 1952, Melly was a lifelong learner who found joy in simple pleasures like shopping, cooking, and painting. Her kitchen was a haven of warmth, filled with the aroma of her delicious meals and the laughter of family and friends. In her later years, she found peace watching the birds, squirrels, and visiting chickens from her window, ever the gentle observer of life’s beauty. Melly was a devoted member of the Darien United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and participated in the Dorcas group. Her faith and commitment to her community were guiding lights, reflecting her deep compassion and love for others. Melly is also preceded in death by her son, David Jr., grandson Austin Perkins, and sisters Judy Meeks and Charlie Murphy. Her legacy of love and strength endures through her family and friends, who will miss her dearly. A service to celebrate Melly's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at EDO Miller & Sons, located at 3321 Glynn Ave., Brunswick, GA 31520. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation, a cause close to Melly's heart. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the therapists, doctors, and nurses who cared for Melly, with special thanks to Jason Jones and Fernanda Wheaton for their extraordinary compassion and friendship. Melly was known affectionately as "Gee" to her family and "Melly" to her many friends. Her nurturing nature and boundless love made everyone feel cherished. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those she held dear. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
