Melissa, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and steadfast member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home on August 5, 2026. Born on July 7, 1954, Melissa was the cherished daughter of the late J.B. and Melba Little. She was predeceased by her loving parents and her son, Joseph Gist.
Melissa leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be carried on by her surviving children, Jayme Strickland and Johnmicheal Windham. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she found immense joy and pride in her grandchildren, Xzavier Windham, Autumn Pittman, and Andy Sukhdeo, and her great-grandchild, Keaton West.
A lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, Melissa's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a woman of a strong convictions, who was never afraid to speak her mind. She had a deep love for her church community, she found great joy in volunteering, especially when it came to caring for children.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, as she touched countless lives with her unwavering spirit and servant's heart. Her legacy is one of love, faith, and an enduring impact on her community and family.
A service to honor and celebrate Melissa's life will be held on August 10, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 3349 N 12th St, Abilene, TX, 79603. A viewing will also be held at the church August 9th, from 6-8pm. Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance of a life so beautifully lived.
