Melinda Taylor Hester, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 22, 1965, in Oxford, North Carolina, Melinda was a beacon of love and kindness, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
The daughter of the late David Franklin Taylor and Lorraine Dawes Taylor, Melinda grew up in a close-knit family, where she learned the values of love, resilience, and community. She graduated from J.F. Webb High School in 1983, setting the stage for a life filled with personal and professional accomplishments.
In 1996, Melinda married the love of her life, Kenneth DeLawrence Hester, on her birthday, June 22. Together, they shared 30 beautiful years of marriage, raising a loving family and building a home filled with joy and laughter. Her beloved children, Raheem, Javier (Kesha), and Kentrell (Sharonda), were the pride and joy of her life. Melinda's heart grew even fuller with the arrival of her cherished grandchildren, Aaliyah, Nahsir, Carter, and Ya'nira, who brought immeasurable happiness into her life.
Melinda dedicated 15 years of her career as a Team Lead at Dill Air Controls Products in Oxford, where she was respected and admired by her colleagues for her leadership and unwavering dedication. Her career also included many rewarding years at Ideal Fastener and Old Dominion in Oxford, where she touched the lives of many with her kindness and professionalism.
A devoted member of her community and church, Melinda was an active participant at God's House of Restoration, where she served as First Lady, lead singer, and secretary. Her unwavering faith and commitment to her church family were evident in her every action. She also served faithfully at New Life Christian Center for many years, enriching the lives of those around her with her steadfast devotion and service.
Melinda had a passion for movies, finding joy and relaxation in watching films. Her love for storytelling and shared experiences brought her closer to her family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Hester; her children, Raheem, Javier (Kesha), and Kentrell (Sharonda); her adored grandchildren; her siblings, Trilby McClammy (Toney), David Taylor, Jr., Benjamin Taylor (Shirley), Linda Hester, James Hester, Jr. (Brandy), Betty Jean Pettiford (Larry), Doris Satterwhite (David), Yvonne Anderson (Troy), Terry Hester (Glenda); and her dear friends, Deborah Crews, Rita Hawkins, Angela Williams, Susan Dortch, and Frances Bridges. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, David and Lorraine Taylor.
A service celebrating Melinda's wonderful life will be held on September 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Greater New Hope Missionary, located at 515 Raleigh St., Oxford, NC 27565. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are welcome to join in remembrance of a remarkable woman who filled the world with love and laughter.
