Mekell Jermaine Green

September 25, 2007 — June 30, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Mekell Jermaine Green, affectionately known as a "gentle giant" to all who knew him. Mekell left this world far too soon on June 30, 2026, at the tender age of 18. Born on September 25, 2007, in Birmingham, Alabama, he was the cherished son of Janae Peterson and Jermaine Green. Mekell’s life, though brief, was filled with warmth, laughter, and a deep love for family and friends. As a recent graduate of Clay Chalkville High School in May 2026, he had a promising future ahead. His passion for sports was evident, and he excelled as a remarkable football player. Mekell had dreams of returning to the field, where his talent and determination shone brightly. Mekell was employed alongside his grandfather at Bessemer City Vault, where he was known for his dedication and hard work. Outside of work, his musical talents enriched the lives of those at his church, where he actively participated as a member, playing the bass guitar, tambourine, and drums. His contributions to the church community were cherished and will be deeply missed. A young man of exceptional character, Mekell was celebrated for his kind spirit and gentle demeanor. He had a natural gift for making people laugh and never held grudges. His sweet words and tender heart left an indelible mark on all who crossed his path. Mekell is survived by a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts: his brother, Christopher (Cj), sister Kayden Ellis, his numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. He is predeceased by his dear uncle Kevin Peterson, Cortez Ware, and Sebastian Stewart, who we trust have welcomed him with open arms in the hereafter. A service to celebrate Mekell’s life will be held on July 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Living by Faith Christian Center, located at 3321 Main Street, Adamsville, Alabama 35005. The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Living by Faith Christian Center and Dante Jelks Funeral Home for their unwavering support and kindness during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those wishing to honor Mekell’s memory consider donations to a charity or memorial fund of their choice, reflecting the kindness and generosity that Mekell embodied throughout his life. Mekell Jermaine Green’s bright spirit, infectious laughter, and loving heart will live on in the memories of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though his journey was brief, his impact was profound, and he will be deeply missed by all.
