May 10, 1924 — March 11, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved May Sexton, who departed this world on March 11, 2026, at the age of 101. May was born in Leeds on May 10, 1924, to Gladys and Walter Adams. She lived a life marked by resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to both her family and her community. May was the cherished wife of the late Albert Patrick Sexton, affectionately known as "Burt," whom she married in April 1943. Together, they built a life filled with love and purpose, working side by side in their crumpet business, a cherished family enterprise that has endured through four generations in the heart of Leeds. Their partnership was a testament to their shared values and commitment to family and community. A woman of remarkable strength and tenacity, May was a beacon of conservative values and a passionate advocate for her community. Her five terms as a Leeds city councillor showcased her dedication to public service, where she worked tirelessly to improve housing and environmental health across the city. Her almost lifelong membership in the Conservative Party was a testament to her belief in the power of collective action and the importance of standing up for what is right. May's passion for life extended beyond politics. She found joy in music, often playing the organ at home, and later became an active member of the church bell ringers at St Oswald in Flamborough after retiring. Her love for music was a reflection of her vibrant spirit and her ability to bring harmony to those around her. Known for her determination and fierce advocacy, May was never one to shy away from speaking her mind. She was a champion for the underrepresented, ensuring that wrongs were righted and that her community's voice was heard. Her legacy is one of strength, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice. May was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Audrey, Jack, and Eileen. She leaves behind a devoted family, including her three children, Janina, Andrew, and Philip, and her four grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Ben, and Rhianna. Their love and support were a source of great joy and pride for her. A service to celebrate May's remarkable life will be held on April 13, 2026, at 11:30 AM at St Oswald's Flamborough, located at 1 Church Street, Flamborough, Bridlington YO15 1PE. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to MacMillan Nurses, an organization whose compassionate care and support were invaluable to May in her final days. Donations can be made at MacMillan Donation Page. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors and nurses at Ward 2C, Raigmore Hospital, Old Perth Road, Inverness IV2 3UJ, whose kindness and professionalism ensured that May was comfortable in her final weeks. May's life was a testament to the power of perseverance, love, and service. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
