May Boatwright

May 2, 1922 — July 14, 1964

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of May Boatwright, who left this world on July 14, 1964, at the age of 42. Born on May 2, 1922, in the warm and vibrant town of Tiburon, South Carolina, May graced the lives of those around her with her gentle spirit, unwavering empathy, and a smile that could light up the darkest of days. May was the beloved daughter of Carl and Mary Boatwright and shared a special bond with her sisters, August and June. The Boatwright family, known for their strength and resilience, endured the loss of May's sister, April, who predeceased her and remained forever close in her heart. Though May did not pursue formal higher education, her knowledge and passion were reflected in her work as a skilled beekeeper. She found joy and purpose in the buzzing symphony of her bee colonies, lovingly gathering honey and sharing the fruits of her labor with her community. May was a nurturing soul, a dedicated member of her own religion, and someone who found solace in simple pleasures—cooking, cleaning, and dancing. Her home was a haven for those who knew her, filled with warmth and laughter. May's deeply empathetic nature and childlike innocence endeared her to many, including Lily Owens, Rosaleen Daise, and Zach Taylor, who survive her and carry forward her legacy of kindness and compassion. May's life, though marked by emotional fragility, was a testament to the power of love and resilience. Her story is one of beauty, struggle, and an unyielding connection to the people she cherished. A service to celebrate May's life will be held on October 22, 2026, at 9:15 a.m. Her family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Daughters of Mary, an organization close to her heart. As we remember May Boatwright, let us hold dear the lessons she imparted through her life—of understanding, acceptance, and the enduring warmth of a loving smile. May she find peace and comfort in the embrace of those who went before her.
