November 28, 1944 — July 2, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Max Jauch, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Born on November 28, 1944, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Max peacefully departed this life on July 2, 2026, at Barnes Jewish St. Peters Hospital, from complications following a stroke at the age of 81. Max was the beloved son of Leslie and Ruby Jauch, who instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity. He was preceded in death by his cherished parents; his brothers, Darrell, Donald, and John Jauch; his sisters, Mildred Followell and June Keller; and his son, Leslie Howard Jauch. Despite his losses, Max's life was richly filled with love and laughter, shared with those he held dear. Max leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Charlotte Sue Jauch, who stood by his side through life's many seasons. Their journey together began on November 24, 1968, at the Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Together, they built a family, a home, and a legacy that will endure in the hearts of many. Max is also survived by his two beloved daughters, Jayne Hollensbe and her husband Forrest of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, and Jill Olroyd and her husband Doug of Chesterfield, Missouri. He was the doting grandfather to Max, Samuel, and Maggie Hollensbe, and Claire and Tanner Olroyd, who will forever cherish the memories of their time spent with him. A proud graduate of Cape Central High School in 1962, Max immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving with honor in the 5040th and 464th Field Maintenance Squadrons until 1966. His dedication to service extended into his civilian life as he embarked on a commendable career in firefighting. Max began this chapter in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he served for 5 years before returning to his roots in Cape Girardeau. He dedicated 28 years to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, retiring as Assistant Chief in 2000. Max was a pillar of his community, a longtime member of the Cape First Church of the Nazarene, and a man of deep faith and conviction. Known for his love of learning, Max was an avid reader and a problem-solver at heart. He found joy in developing computer programs both for personal use and for the fire department. His passions included spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren, traveling with his wife, and cherishing moments with friends. A service celebrating Max's life will be held on July 10, 2026. Visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with memorial service to follow at 12:00 PM at The Crossing Church, located at 114 N. Eatherton Rd, Chesterfield, Missouri 63005. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Max's memory to The BackStoppers, an organization close to his heart. Donations can be made via https://www.pledge.to/organizations/43-6032561/the-backstoppers, supporting the invaluable work they do for families of fallen first responders. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional team at BJC St. Peters, especially the ICU nurses, for their compassionate care during Max's final days. Their kindness and dedication provided immense comfort during this difficult time. Max's legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, dear Max. Your life was a blessing, and your memory will forever remain a treasure in our hearts.
