Maurice A Gagne

Maurice A. Gagne, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2026, surrounded by his cherished family and his loving wife, Rachel, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 24, 1943, in Lewiston, Maine, Maurice was the son of the late Gerard A. and Lillian M. (Ouelette) Gagne. Maurice, fondly known as "Moe," was renowned for his quick wit and warm smile, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood and bring laughter to those around him. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and his kindness and compassion touched countless lives throughout his 83 years. Moe spent many dedicated years working at Country Kitchen in Lewiston and later at Lewiston Public Works, where he made a lasting impact before retiring in 2000. His passion for sports was evident in his unwavering support for the Bruins and Green Bay Packers, never missing a game unless it conflicted with his great-nephews Bryce and Tyler's hockey matches. Moe had a love for bowling and roller skating, which brought him immense joy. On April 4, 1987, Maurice married the love of his life, Rachel C. Lanois, at St. Mary's Church in Lewiston. Together, they shared 39 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Maurice is survived by his devoted wife, Rachel. He is survived by his three daughters: Dolly Soucy and husband Brian, Patty Cantin and husband Alan, and Dorie Giguere and husband Kevin. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Constance Rioux and husband Robert, his brother Raymond Gagne, his sister Jeannine Dupuis, father-in-law Romeo Lanois and wife Laurette, and sister-in-law Denise LaChapelle and husband Richard. Maurice is also survived by his siblings-in-law, including brother-in-law Gregory Dupuis, sister-in-law Jackie Leger and husband Lynn, and sister-in-law Rita Lemay and husband Paul, along with numerous nieces and nephews, Kathleen Rioux and husband Brian Fanjoy, Sherri Go and husband Eugene, Tammy Kvedar and husband Bob, Jerry Leger and wife Terri, James LaChapelle and wife Tina, Sheree Jackson and husband Terry, Travis Lemay and wife Gina, Kevin Lemay and fiancé Jennifer and Angel Broussard and husband Travis, as well as many great-nieces and nephews. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Beacon Hospice for their compassionate care during Maurice's illness. A funeral service to celebrate Maurice’s life will be held on August 27, 2026, at Albert & Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine Street, Lewiston, Maine, 04240. Visiting hours will be from 1-3pm with the service being held from 3-4pm.
