Maura Bridget Doherty, a beacon of wisdom and warmth, bid farewell to this world on June 1, 2026, just shy of her 77th birthday. Born on June 9, 1949, in the vibrant heart of Bronx, NY, Maura lived a life as rich and textured as the stories she loved to tell. Maura's journey was one of exploration and dedication. After graduating from Fordham University, she pursued a Master's in Public Health at the University of California at Berkeley. Armed with knowledge and a passion for safeguarding others, she embarked on a career as an industrial hygienist. For over 30 years, Maura was a guardian angel to countless workers, ensuring their safety and well-being in the workplace. In 2001, Maura's life took a joyful turn when she married Ken Demo. Their union was a tapestry woven with laughter, love, and shared adventures. Ken was not just her husband but her partner in every sense of the word, with whom she had more fun than she ever expected. Their journey together was a testament to the power of love and companionship. A gifted storyteller and author, Maura had a knack for capturing the essence of life in her words. In 2012, she published her chapbook of poetry, "Lineage," a reflection of her deep connection to her roots and history. Her memoir, "She Blooms: Finding Home After the Convent," published in 2024, offered readers a glimpse into her soul, showcasing her resilience and courage in the face of life's challenges. Maura's quick wit and supportive nature knew no bounds. She was a cherished sister to Jo Anne, Michael, and Frank Doherty, and a beloved aunt to a multitude of nieces and nephews. Her family extended beyond blood ties, encompassing the lively and loving members of the Papaccinos coffee group, with whom she shared countless hours of camaraderie and joy. To those who knew her, Maura was a guiding light, illuminating the path with her wisdom and kindness. Her stories, both written and spoken, were gifts to the world, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we celebrate Maura's life, let us remember her not just for her accomplishments but for the love she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the legacy she leaves behind in her words and deeds. She lived a life full of purpose and passion, and her spirit will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she touched. A private gathering to honor Maura's memory will be held with family and close friends, where her life and legacy will be celebrated. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations dedicated to worker safety and health, a cause close to Maura's heart. Maura Bridget Doherty will be dearly missed, but her story will live on, inspiring others to find their own voice and embrace the adventures life has to offer.
