Mattie J. Barnes Anderson

July 20, 1946 — October 4, 2026

With profound sadness and gentle reverence, we announce the passing of Mattie J. Barnes Anderson, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who departed this world on October 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unforgettable memories. Born in the heart of Milledgeville, Georgia, Mattie's life was a testament to the strength and warmth of Southern roots. The beloved daughter of the late Bennie and Mary Ida Clark, Sr., she was raised alongside her siblings Carl James and Delia Clark, who predeceased her. Despite these losses, Mattie's heart remained full of love and compassion, traits that she shared with everyone she encountered. Mattie pursued her education with determination, graduating from Boddie High School and continuing her studies at Fort Valley State College. Her career path led her to Baldwin County Hospital, and later to Central State Hospital, where she served as a Hospital Service Technician until her retirement. Her dedication and commitment to her work were admired by colleagues and patients alike. An active member of the Second Macedonia Baptist Church, Mattie found joy and purpose in serving as a missionary. She dedicated herself to her faith and community, embodying the spirit of service and fellowship. Her love for spending time with her daughters, Kimtra and Kevita Anderson, and granddaughter, Kierstin Anderson, was evident to all who knew her. Family gatherings were her treasured moments, as she relished in the laughter and warmth they brought. Among her many hobbies, Mattie had a special gift for making others feel loved through the simple act of sending cards. Whether it was a birthday, holiday, or just a thoughtful note, her cards were a symbol of her unwavering affection. She also enjoyed the comfort of soap operas and the excitement of game shows, sharing these moments with family and friends. Mattie had a unique ability to turn strangers into family, a quality that endeared her to everyone she met. Her generosity of spirit and open heart created a welcoming circle of friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a devoted aunt, Ednar James, who will all miss her dearly. A service to celebrate Mattie's life will be held on October 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Second Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 2914 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, GA. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin and all who have shared their love and support during this time.
