Mattie Francis Jordan

November 1, 1935 — September 24, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Mattie Frances Jordan, who left this world peacefully on September 24, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on November 1, 1935, in Elberton, Georgia, Mattie was the cherished daughter of Dooley Harper and Jerushie Downer. Mattie was a woman of quiet strength and sharp wit, whose legacy is lovingly carried forward by her surviving family: her daughter Gwendolyn Hill, her son Calvin Jordan, ten devoted grandchildren, Jerrod Hill; Christopher Hill (Lenita); Toby Frazier (Robbin); Timothy Brinkley (Melanie); Terrance Jordan; Travis Brinkley; Todd Brinkley; Calvin Powell; Katrina Walker (Thaddus); Crystal Tirado-Smith (Mickel) and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a multitude of cousins who affectionately knew her as "Sister". She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Joyce Ann Washington, and her precious granddaughter, Tamara Lynn Brinkley. As a homemaker, Mattie poured her love and dedication into creating a warm and nurturing environment for her family. Her home was a sanctuary where laughter was abundant, and memories were made every day. Known for her gentle demeanor, Mattie possessed a surprising spark—her friends and family fondly recall her trusty yellow switchblade, a testament to her readiness to protect those she loved. Her unique sense of justice was often humorously expressed in her favorite phrase for those who had wronged her: "a no gooder." Mattie’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and the importance of family. Whether it was her grandchildren who found comfort in her stories, or her great-grandchildren who marveled at her stories of old, she had a profound impact on everyone she met. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to all who have supported them during this time of loss. Mattie Frances Jordan will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

Poem / Prayer

We thought of you today, But that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday, And days before that too. We think of you in silence, We often speak your name. Now all we have are memories, And your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, With which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping, We have you in our heart.
