Born on June 2, 1929, in Houston, Texas, Mattie was a beacon of warmth and kindness, impacting all who had the fortune of knowing her. Mattie was the beloved daughter of RC and Emma Wright, who instilled in her the values of compassion, resilience, and strength that would guide her throughout her life. She was predeceased by her cherished parents, her brother Keith Wright, sister Annie Bruner, and her dear niece and nephew. Mattie now joins them in eternal peace. In 1957, Mattie married Paul Wright, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love and joy, though their paths later diverged in 1994. Despite life's challenges, Mattie remained a devoted mother to her daughters, Nikki Wright and Tasha Wilson, who survive her and continue to carry forward her legacy of love. She was also the proud grandmother to four grandchildren and the adoring great-grandmother to twenty-one great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Mattie graduated from Douglass High School in 1946, marking the beginning of a lifetime of learning and nurturing. Known for her culinary skills, she was a great cook who delighted in preparing meals that brought her family together. Her kitchen was often filled with delicious aromas and the sound of laughter, a testament to her belief that food is love made visible. A pillar of her community, Mattie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Christ until her last days. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, providing her with guidance and solace. She was affectionately known as "everyone's auntie," a testament to her generous spirit and unwavering commitment to doing for others. Her home was a gathering place, full of warmth, welcome, and endless love. Mattie's life will be celebrated on April 8, 2026, at 9:30 AM at Inspire Church, located at 11727 East Sam Houston Parkway N, Houston, TX 77044. Her family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all who will come to honor her memory and share in the joy of having been a part of her life.
