Mattie A. Woodford
June 3, 1926 — February 12, 2026
With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our cherished matriarch, Mattie A. Woodford, who went to be with her Father God on February 12, 2026, at the remarkable age of 99 years and eight months. Born on June 3, 1926, in Birmingham, Alabama, Mattie was a beacon of strength, wisdom, and love.
The beloved daughter of Maggie Cook and Will Harris, Mattie was predeceased by her dear sister, Johnny Mae Robinson, and her devoted parents. Her legacy, however, is lovingly carried forward by her children, sons William Earl Harris and Floyd Harris Jr., and daughters Irene, Howard, and Audrey E. Leonard. She leaves behind a family tree that flourished under her nurturing care, including her niece, Connie Robinson, and nephews Michael and Kenneth Robinson, alongside a host of relatives and friends who were blessed by her presence.
Mattie's life was enriched by her 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, each a testament to the love and guidance she imparted. Her granddaughters, Cassandra Leonard, La’Keisha Harris, Latina Belle, Latrell, Lisa, Courtney Johns, Fanta Ayo Rodgers, Anita Stallings, Jeringa Gordon, Jasmine Harris, Kiera Harris, Mercedes Harris, Andrea Sims, and Trese Sims, and grandsons, William Howard, Warren Howard, Carlos, Parish, Willie McCorkle, Johnny Sims, and Shaun Sims, will forever hold her memory close.
A woman of great faith, Mattie's life was a living testimony to her strength and resilience. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her faithfulness to God and her unwavering love for her family were the cornerstones of her existence. She was a woman who upheld truth and set firm boundaries, providing a strong foundation for all who knew her.
Mattie enjoyed a fulfilling career as a caterer, where her love for cooking brought joy to many. Her time at Chrysler instilled in her a sense of independence that she cherished. Outside of work, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as shopping and spending quality time with her loved ones. Her belief in the sanctity of marriage was well-known, and she approached life with honesty and a no-nonsense attitude that inspired respect.
A celebration of Mattie’s extraordinary life will take place on her birthday, June 3, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Church On The Rock Ministries, located at 2253 N. Gettysburg Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45406. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the members of Church On The Rock Ministries for their warm welcome, hospitality, and compassion during this time. God bless; we are truly grateful.
As we gather to honor Mattie's incredible journey, we remember her unwavering love, her indomitable spirit, and the legacy she leaves behind in each of us. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who were touched by her presence. May she rest in eternal peace.
