Matthew Martinez

August 21, 1954 — July 1, 2026

It is with profound sadness and an enduring sense of gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Matthew Martinez, who left this world peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the age of 71. He was surrounded by the love and comfort of his family in his home after a courageous battle with a long illness. Born on August 21, 1954, in the serene town of Laramie, Wyoming, Matthew was the beloved son of Jovita and the late Bert Martinez. From a young age, Matthew exhibited a tenacity and spirit that would guide him throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of Greeley West High School's Class of 1973, where he made history by becoming a state champion in wrestling, proudly securing the first trophy for the newly built school. His dedication and spirit were evident in every challenge he faced, both on and off the mat. Matthew's career at Kodak Colorado spanned an impressive 37 years. He began his journey with the company shortly after high school and worked diligently across various departments. His colleagues remember him not just for his hard work and expertise but for the kindness and generosity he showed everyone he met. In 1983, Matthew married the love of his life, Deb, with whom he shared 43 wonderful years filled with laughter, adventure, and a shared love for the outdoors. Together, they embarked on many kayaking trips after Matthew's retirement in 2012, creating cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew them. Matthew's love for animals, especially dogs, was a testament to his gentle nature and compassionate soul. He had many loyal canine companions throughout his life, and he will be dearly missed by Honey Boo Boo, his latest rescue dog, who brought immense joy to his days. Matthew is survived by his devoted wife Deb, their loving son Matthew Jr., and his cherished siblings: brothers Bert and Vince, and sisters Pat and Coleen. He also leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire those who knew him. A service to honor Matthew's life will be held at Linn Grove Cemetery, located at 1700 Cedar St. in Greeley. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Kidney Fund, an organization close to Matthew's heart. Contributions can be made online at American Kidney Fund Donation Page. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice nurses whose care and compassion were a blessing during Matthew's final year. Deb, in particular, wishes to express her deep appreciation for the grace and kindness shown to both her and Matthew. Matthew Martinez was a beacon of strength, love, and integrity. His memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest peacefully, dear Matthew. You will always be in our hearts.
