Matthew C Grzanich, Sr.
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Matthew C Grzanich, Sr., who left this world peacefully at home on October 22, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 14, 1973, in Canton, Illinois, Matt was a beacon of love and strength to all who knew him.
Matt was the cherished son of Thomas and Carolyn Grzanich and Sandra Szpyrka. He shared a beautiful life with his devoted wife of 30 years, Brooke Mason, whom he married on June 15, 1996, at the Leland United Methodist Church. Together, they created a life filled with laughter, love, and countless heartwarming memories.
Matt's legacy lives on through his loving children: Jimmi Krachtus (Stef), Kathlyn Grzanich, and Matthew Grzanich, Jr., as well as his adored grandson, Reid Krachtus. He is also survived by his siblings, Candice Bavido, Sandy (Christopher) Abbott, Rita (Jed) Clason, Anita (Jason) Flanders, Michael Grzanich (Arlene Dupree), and Michelle (Andy) Schultz. His family was the center of his world, and he was also blessed with many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a vast network of devoted friends.
After graduating from Leland High School, Matt embarked on his career journey at Roney Oatman, where he formed lifelong bonds. However, it was as an Overhead Lineman for Comed where he truly found his calling. His love for his profession was evident to all, as he often delighted his family with tales of the power lines and poles he worked on during their drives. His dedication and expertise were gifts he generously shared with his colleagues every day.
Matt's heart was happiest in the great outdoors, where he found joy in hunting and fishing. His farm in Lewistown was his sanctuary, a place where he relished mowing the grass, preparing for hunting seasons, and working on machinery. He was proud to share this little slice of heaven with those he loved. Matt's culinary skills were legendary, and he took immense pleasure in cooking and grilling for gatherings, ensuring everyone around him enjoyed themselves. Known for his sense of humor, Matt loved to make people laugh, always ready with a joke and a smile.
To know Matt was to love him. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he was ever ready to place the needs of others above his own. His heart, the biggest and kindest, touched everyone who crossed his path.
In honor of Matt's life, the family kindly suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, Georgia. The Grzanich family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Advocate Infusion Center, Radiation Oncology of Advocate Christ Medical Center, and their OSF Hospice nurse. Your compassionate care and genuine concern for Matt during these past months were deeply appreciated by all.
Matt's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends. Though he has left this earthly realm, his spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who loved him.
